The Millennium Garden, which is situated in the rest gardens in Southview Road, Southwick, was an ACF brain-child. The Adur community donated £2,000 for it's construction and initial planting, and it was designed with low maintainance in mind.

Over the years there have been several changes in the ground-plants, but the small trees have remained a wonderful constant. One of the trees is a rare specimen from New Zealand and looks wonderful.

When the Millennium Garden was started, a commemorative brass plaque was placed there to pay tribute to those that had rallied to the fundraising cause. Unfortunately this plaque soon became a target for vandals and was soon defaced, then stolen.

The ACF, not being a group that gives up, tackled this issue with gusto. It was discussed and decided that a theft-proof option that was both affordable and financialy within reach, was a hefty but beautiful stone!

After much searching among local stone merchants and further fund-raising by ACF volunteers, the wonderful stone you now see there was obtained. Another plaque was commissioned and the grounds maintainance crew of the council cane to our aid. They inserted a large steel rod into the base of the stone, and set this in concrete into the ground, thus solving the casual theft issue for good. For good measure they also prepared a flat section for the new plaque to be perfectly and very securely fitted into.
